From the Red Mix sessions
Dec. 15th, 2005 08:58 pmI almost put in the train ride passage from FdY in an attempt to win an Ulrich Schnauss CD off Robot Blair here, only I couldn't be bothered to make it comprehensible. XD But this is a tip to go download the track in question; it really is the perfect train ride soundtrack.
(Most recent Robot Blair track is a remix of the Presets' "Girl and the Sea" that is also ace.)
Tiga - 3 Weeks: the Tiga album is a bit of a mixed bag. From trawling the internets I can see I'm not the only one baffled regarding the decision to leave off preexisting guaranteed dancefloor fillers in favour of... boring ballads? And answering machine interludes. You know, those were cool back when Pink Floyd had them, but I think the value since has been debatable. =_=
"3 Weeks" is the most immediately catchy of the new tracks; it's also depressing as heck lyrics-wise. ^^;
Tiga - Hot in Herre (Gareth Gatex Vocal Remix): this is the Richard X remix, near as I can figure it. One of them, anyway. That there is what I call flair for nomenclature. (BTW I discovered from reading the Tiga blurb on discogs - itself a work of art, I'd like to move to that AU!Montreal - that the puppeteering in the video was done by his brother, who is a professional. Dude! Is that not the most awesome thing ever? Can you imagine this family's Christmas gatherings? ...Actually there is a song on this album about his brother which has incredibly retarded lyrics that go something like "You're a little bit like me but you're much more like you and thus you're not actually a lot like me." But I kind of grok the sentiment.)
Tiefschwarz - Warning Siren (feat. Matty Safer): I do like Tiefschwarz, they're not all menacing Black Strobe-like electro by a long shot. This is almost dance-punk, bouncy and super-catchy. "I'm in love, I'm in love with catastrophic destruction!"
Hanayo - Joe le Taxi (Extended Mix): first encountered this on As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt.2. Japanese indietronica girl covers Vanessa Paradis in a six-years-old voice over a fuzzy electro groove by Jürgen Paape, i.e. if I'd heard of it before I heard it proper I'd've thought someone who knew me well was playing an elaborate joke.
Actually any pop song with coy female vocals can conceivably be covered in this style, as for example:
DJ Sid featuring Sylvie Fleury - Santa Baby
Although this is sparer and more aggressive, Miss Kittin clone spoken-word plus microhouse. Basically it has to be a girl with a French, German or Japanese accent - or the DJ himself, as long as he promises to sound really wussy.
