A rare weekend music update
Dec. 10th, 2005 08:13 pmActually I uploaded it all yesterday, I was just too tuckered out to write the entry. *g*
I was supposed to upload Ran Mix v2 for
pere_chan (I hope you're feeling better?) but didn't get around to it for the longest time. ^^; Here it is: [download folder removed]
It'll be up for a week. Next week I'll be upping the Good Omens FST as someone asked for that. XD
Also, now that I'm no longer too embarrassed to explain properly: this is a mix for Alec out of Swordspoint. XD; It's actually more straightforward a character mix than the usual abstractions I call my "DJ mixes". Of course there is an element of transposition/translation so to speak - I thought, if I were really going to make a Swordspoint FST it certainly wouldn't be full of Vitalic and Goldfrapp and the Faint - but then again why not? As
fabulous_papaya pointed out you could pretty much libretto Swordspoint entirely with the Faint, so there.
The Faint - Agenda Suicide
The Faint - Glass Danse
The Faint - Let The Poison Spill From Your Throat
Randomly selected from the Danse Macabre album. The music walks a knife's edge between new-new wave and electro; it's filter-y, claustrophobic, extremely danceable. The lyrics elevate the social anxiety of hedonism to high drama. One feels like one of those goth club girls or boys who judge everyone they see by how pretty they are compared to their own pretty self, you see it in their eyes.
The Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels): yesterday morning it snowed like Montreal was a glass globe someone had turned over and shaken during the night. I stepped outside and immediately felt like hearing this song, but it wasn't on my mp3 player... The Arcade Fire sound like Montreal the way BPAL sometimes makes perfumes that smell like paintings, or places in books - "How the heck do they do that?" You certainly don't have to be from Montreal to be affected, but it's a little like saying you don't have to have read Rg Veda or X to appreciate TRC: sure you feel it but not like I do.
Ulrich Schnauss - Suddenly The Trees Are Giving Way: this is almost too pretty (in concert he's way loud and sounds like the harmony of the celestial spheres). You have to be careful how you use it. Kanno Yoko's trick with the GitS soundtracks perhaps, imbuing a sterile and technofetishist world with emotion like rosy dawn washing over a concrete city.
