petronia: (tea or coffee?)

Bought these Singaporean instant white coffee packets. This stuff makes me hyper. At 2AM last night I was drawing a map of East Asia and the Pacific Rim in my writing notebook and giggling at all the annotated arrows. For the sake of convenience I have also reproduced it as a graph in my carrying notebook. Soon my fic will have been reduced to a spanning tree problem! ...Well, no. But the research must be fun, or what's the point.

Giant music dump of schtuff gacked and recycled from other people's posts (hey, pass it on, right?):

Depeche Mode - Photographic (Rex The Dog Faithful Mix)
Depeche Mode - Photographic (Rex The Dog Dubb Mix)

Weird how taste can change. The dub mix is on the 3CD version of Remixes 81-04; I quite clearly remember listening to it last winter and not liking it. Went back and played it again because someone on the ILM YSI thread kept asking and was just like, was I nuts? Deaf? The synth stabs like crystal architecture in the sky! I figure at the time I would've had at least a modicum of appreciation for vocalless dance remixes, if that was the thing, but... oh well.

The "faithful" mix is the one with the proper singing. XD Did Dave Gahan really sound like that back then? Dear saints.

Ladytron - Destroy Everything You Touch: I'm uploading it after all, even though I think I will make it part of a mix in the near future. XD

Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun (feat. Puffy): from [livejournal.com profile] canis_m. Actually this is quite successful... if you like pop-ska covers. XD It's like pop-punk covers, either you're into the concept itself or you're not. I impressed a household with this yesterday but couldn't convince anyone that the Shaggy-featuring track wasn't a misbirthed mashup.

Suga Shikao - Sanagi (XXXHolic Single Version)
Suga Shikao - Sanagi (Album Version)

From [livejournal.com profile] vonbrigthi. They sound completely different! Suspect Suga Shikao of doing this with all his singles. I have to say I prefer the shiny funk-pop arrangement on the single to the sparer one on the album, which mutes the emotional impact.

Pet Shop Boys - Miracles (Eric Prydz Remix): [livejournal.com profile] mitethe said there was a quasi-mystical feel to the original, which is true. This remix abandons it for SPACESHIP LASER SOUND EFFECTS, which results in its occupying emotional terrain somewhere alongside opening themes to mid-90s SF/fantasy/comedy anime sung by Hayashibara Megumi. Which is to say, ♥. (No, seriously, when the vocal line cuts in try and picture Okui Masami in lieu of Neil Tennant - at first it will hurt but you'll understand. This could probably be easily (dis)proven but I've always hypothesized that said mid-90s anime themes were all written by the same person, and that person's favorite song in the entire world was "Domino Dancing".)

Whew, I think I'm coming back down off the caffeine. Dizzy. XD;;
