petronia: (excuse me?)
[personal profile] petronia
If I haven't complained about Mirage of Blaze for about a week - other than an occasional note to the effect that yes I'm still reading - it's because I'm actually enjoying this story arc. Like the plot, like seeing the elided details get filled in along the way, like the characters. Ujiteru is the first antagonist in the series I unabashedly give a damn about (one is made to feel for Sassa Narimasa but the whole umm wife-killing bit gives me the heebies), because I have, like, a yasashii oniisan thing. >_> In the book he takes the initiative of "calling" Naoe to Hakone [incomprehensible internet protocol metaphor deleted] just to get a look at the low-down bastard who's making his little brother miserable and to guilt him for all he's worth, which I think is capital. Of course if I were him I'd never have left the two alone in the same room even with the Fuuma on guard, but then how is he supposed to expect this guy would have so much trouble with the no-touch clause, let alone the paranoid delusions of persecution?

Mind you when Naoe sees Kagetora looking out at him accusingly from every reflective surface including calm lakes, windowpanes etc. it's not a paranoid delusion, which doesn't help the whole sanity issue. The fact that he semi-thinks Kagetora planned everything as a way of kicking him while he's down, though? =_= The problem with this series is that it all makes perfect sense... in Naoe's head. One day I will make a numbered list of the ways the inside of Naoe's head defies reality, with bulleted sublists.

In the meantime, to sate my list-urge, I updated my Death Note: rules of usage entry with the rules from tankoubon 4. XD There are tons of them.

I'm also really very fond of Fuuma Kotarou. XD I mean, he's an emotionless evil ninja! With the evil ninja deadpan! How is that not the greatest. Every time I saw him in the anime I would crack up laughing. In the book it is even better, because you get to hear his thoughts from time to time, and he really IS completely puzzled and spends his time wondering why his samurai masters are on crack and illogically attached to things like family members and underaged objects of unrequited lust.

...This is why I should never be asked questions such as what characters do I like and why I like them.
