Downloading Gwen Stefani's new album, as it managed to cause minor kerfufflage in two utterly unrelated peripheral flist-reading fandoms. The mp3 blogger one obv (does Gwen r0xx0r or suxx0r???**), and the visual kei/gothloli one which is undergoing growing pains of terminology appropriation, somewhat like the definition-of-yaoi discussions that go down on AMLA from time to time: know-nothing Western newbies using words like "lolita" or "EGL" re outfits that no Japanese would ever describe as such. Like Miz Stefani on the back of her album, I suspect, and hence "Harajuku Girls". Good grief, "Harajuku Girls". Not so much a song as it is a weapon. The next time anyone in animanga fandom complains about know-nothing newbies and said newbies declaim loudly their right to use Japanese words any which way they like, I'll just put "Harajuku Girls" on repeat until both sides give up and beg for mercy. Or I would if this didn't all happen over the Internet.

Seriously, it wouldn't take more than two minutes.

(Re r0xx0r or suxx0r: I am so not a No Doubt fan that... okay, let's just say I'm not, but this isn't a No Doubt album. "Crash" and "Serious" are ace in an if-only-Britney-had-singles-like-this sort of way, instead of the long stretch of total melodic forgettability between "Oops! I Did It Again" and "Toxic". The badness of "Harajuku Girls" is such that it about averages any produced-pop goodness on the rest of the album out to nil, though. And one probably does need to be in something like animanga or gothloli fandom to "appreciate" properly, but... point, yes. I would post it except I don't want to be directly responsible for spreading the meme. XD)

In other news, I watched the first four episodes of Meine Liebe. It's... well, it's everything everyone's said about it for years, sure enough. (Special mention of [livejournal.com profile] tongari's comment re Ed's eerie resemblance to Bebop!Ed. Damn...) One gets into the flow of the thing after a while, but I keep wanting to yell "will someone take that Wagner record off and let these boys and their garter boots angst in peace?" at the unfeeling anime sky.

In other-other news, I have yet to finish reading GB 27 as I expect it to make me goober over the charas' winter outfits yet again, but COULD FUDOU BE ANY GAYER KTHX?

Meine Leibe. "So fabulous. And by fabulous, clearly, I mean flaming."

This show amuses me more that it probably should. A friend and I watch it together and try to call what will happen next. "Oooh, now she'll get hit by a bomb...whoah, she did. Oooh, now he'll take her locket and keep it with him forever...wow, they topped that with him talking to it" and so on. So pretty, Ed totally is Bebop Ed, that is so scary, and wow, it's so nuts and platform-shoes-y.

ironically i heard that harajuku girls song a few days ago while in a car full of people who also know japanese. the brain damage.

as for meine liebe, i really have no words. i never know if i should laugh hysterically or repeatedly bang my head against a wall until the blood runs into my eyes so i can't see it anymore. it was like watching gackt and hyde try to speak mandarin in the horribly campy 'moonchild' which i still need to blog about sometime.

...I'm frightened. I tried to leave a comment and it appeared in someone else's lj, not yours. O.o Signs that it's late and I should be in bed but..just want to say...don't get me started on that song. >.> Harajuku girls indeed. Mm...*grumble*

Boys more like but who's checking really?

And you know...that song is everywhere here. @_@ If I have to see one more frilly black lace skirt on the tv accompanied by pouty faces and stampy platformed feet I may have to jab a chopstick in my eye, or possibly...lay under the kotatsu in heated bliss until I melt into the tatami...

New Order? eh? XD

And I think that I have enjoyed many Britney singles between Oops I Did it Again and Toxic. Actually, I can't stand Toxic and can sympathise with Janni re:production hate on Brit's stuff when I listen to Toxic. XD

No Doubt also throws me into a tizzy because they were a former ska band and it makes me sad to see that ska has all but been expunged. ska done well is fun. (The Specials, man! Tho considered v. pop-y by ska purists, so XD)

Argh, must get back paid icons, life is so WRONG WITHOUT. XD

New Order is on Gwen Stefani's album. "Real Thing" came up and I was like, "That... that bass. Uso." _O_

While "Toxic" is not what one might call my favorite song of all time, at least it had a discernable and rather catchy tune, unlike - say - "Slave 4 U". And I still can't get over how some of her songs can sound so over-produced and mediocrely under-produced simultaneously.

(OTOH I have to say this: bolly remix of "Me Against The Music" veddy veddy good indeed. XD)

Ska will be back. It always has before. XD

Not an unmitigated disaster but it... sort of sounds like a middling Electronic song. >_> The verse is nice but the chorus doesn't take off, just rolls about aimlessly on the runway.

...but...but..."Slave 4 U" had carefully choreographed heavy breathing! if that isn't one of the hallmarks of an instantly memorable song, i don't know what is! XDDDD

Eh, would take "I'm a Slave 4 U" over Toxic anyday, but I actually like the beat and the production on I'm a Slave 4 U, so XDXDXD Whereas Toxic just makes me think Brit's career is goin down the drain. ^_~

Each wave of ska scares me tho. I hate third wave ska, but that's cos it's transmorgofied into this weird pop-punk shaite XD

Me Against the Music also has the Madonna influence, which isn't much, since Madonna is waning and growing a bit long in the tooth, buuuut XD
