Went to Comic Con for a few hours on Saturday, despite rocky recovery from terrible cold. I'm not actually all that interested in getting shiz signed, or toys or... idk, fanart commissions and kitty-ear hats... so that leaves gawking at cosplay, which was not quite as good as Otakuthon, and browsing for books. XD; I don't have a comics collection to maintain, so obviously if you turn me loose on a convention I buy at random, with a focus on crack. Eg. the one where Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America are turned into frogs by SPACE DRAGONS, which allows them to communicate with the superhero team formed by the superpowered pets of the Marvelverse. (And non-superpowered: at least, I think Aunt May's dog may simply be a regular talking dog.)

Two of these trades mostly involve Magneto and his family. The 2002 one is like, UN Security Council! Failed nation-state! Destruction of Earth's atmosphere! The 1986 one is like, for the love of pete Wanda why did you put off telling your dad you were pregnant until it was Thanksgiving and you had to invite him to the Avengers party, now it's going to be really awkward.

(At first I was merely baffled that she had a working landline number for Magneto, but then I realized this was the period that dude was at the Xavier mansion because Charles was dead or something conveniently in time to avoid holiday family drama.)

I didn't make it, in the end! The prospect was less appealing once I realized how full my schedule was this weekend. My brother and his boyfriend were in for some kind of card tourney, though.

How were the crowds? I heard from a friend that there was a lot of people this year?

There were a lot of people, but crowd control was good - everyone I knew went at different times (so much for forming a group XD but there wasn't much to do but shop), and no one had to queue for more than 15 minutes or so to get in.

One of those situations where the crack lies abundant and close to the surface, methinks. XD

(Magneto shows up to Thanksgiving dinner - not in costume, I guess as some sort of symbolic concession as the Avengers were all wearing theirs - but in a cable-knit V-neck pullover and short-waisted bomber jacket. And jeans. Basically the most mid-80s outfit of all time. He spends the evening getting drunk and angsting about the fact that the X Academy students all went elsewhere for Thanksgiving and he was ALONE but his kids didn't love him, in the sort of thought bubble process that really ought to be conveyed via the reality-TV conceit of individual interviews, only that didn't yet exist in 1986. Then he and Wanda have a fight in the kitchen.)

This description makes me extremely happy. What is the name of this magical item, that I might see if I can track down a copy?

It's an Avengers book called "Vision and Scarlet Witch: A Year In The Life". Which sounds like a reality show, and a reality show is pretty much what it is - it starts with the Vision and Wanda buying this massive house in New Jersey, and ends with Wanda having twins.

(The fabric of Marvelverse reality having been warped a few times since, Speed and Wiccan as they currently exist are "sort of arguably" Wanda's kids, but she definitely gives birth to them here. Magneto's third grandkid is Luna, and she is *sigh* Chibi Usa a princess of the Moon. He gets along with the grandkids better than with his kids, in large part because he hasn't tried to make them party to terrorist acts yet - I think.)

Thanks so much for this info. The "Luna" thing gives me an odd impression that his granddaughter is grows up to be the Luna from the Casshern stories...

XD Or Luna from Harry Potter.

Wiccan (Billy) is also dating a boy (a fellow Young Avenger). It's nice how this doesn't seem to be a big deal either way.

There's actually MJR SRS BZNS happenings with all these characters in the current serialized stuff, so it's terrible timing in terms of me getting interested in Wanda's fate (awful stuff always happens to her), whether Magneto blows up his relationship with his biological family again (one is pessimistic), etc. XD;
