夢際のLAST BOY~
Jul. 15th, 2004 11:55 pmWent to see Ping-Pong at Fantasia. SHOUNEN SPORTS~~ :D :D Seriously, I had a headache all day and this film cured it. Ran all the way home from the bus stop. You'll love it if you like shounen sports manga in general - I mean, movie, but it really obviously started off as manga - right feel, all the classic genre tropes from the Scary Bald Team to the sports-related superpowers to the dramatic injuries to the chibi childhood flashbacks to that damned elimination tournament chart (which I'm starting to realise is mass-produced by the Education Department or something and used for all varsity sports in Japan). And quite a lot of the soundtrack was Supercar, including some of the tracks I posted the other day. A WINNER IS ME XD
I'm going to read the manga~~ but I think the live-ac is prettier~~ and that's a phrase one almost never gets to type out, so in conclusion, you must all rent this film~~ :D
EDIT -- Also, I'm going to play corporate paintball out in the wilds tomorrow (sororial unit: "Like that scene out of Good Omens? >_>"). I've never played paintball before. Advice?
EDIT2 -- According to AICN, Miike is making a film about a Bakumatsu hitokiri whose BURNINATING RAGE allows him to time travel. Clearly this will be the greatest movie of all time.

Date: 2004-07-15 09:27 pm (UTC)I saw that maybe my second or third night in Japan, and totally fell in love. Had to buy a HK bootleg copy as soon as I got back to the States. ...Is it getting a North American release?
Have giant crush on Arata. Further cemented by After Life.

Date: 2004-07-15 10:03 pm (UTC)(OMG, he was Tsuzuki. o_o Funny, in this one he looked strikingly like Tezuka-buchou out of Prince of Tennis. Only with no competitive spirit, which is like Tsuzuki with no sweet tooth.)

Date: 2004-07-15 10:22 pm (UTC)Re: Burninating rage - clearly I am NOT HATEFUL ENOUGH and must work on my scorn and contempt for humanity. Damnit. How much rage do you have to accumulate before you get time travel, anyway? Is there some kind of burninating rage pyramid scheme I'm not aware of? Is there like a rewards program? Is time travel like the equivalent of the cadillac or the two weeks in Hawaii? WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED?!!!!

Date: 2004-07-15 10:33 pm (UTC)Personal favorites are Supercar's Free Your Soul and sugar plant's Rise, which would go on my personal Hikaru no Go fst if I did that sort of thing. Since, you know, not a big jump between the two.
Lemme know when you've got 'em all.

Date: 2004-07-15 10:51 pm (UTC)Regarding the rumored Miike film, Japan is trying to kill me, or keep me from working on history and popular culture, isn't it? First Gintama, now this.

Date: 2004-07-16 05:42 am (UTC)re Scary Bald Team: I'm getting images of Rikkai shaving their heads after losing Kantou - or it could be that they've already made Jackal atone for all of them :D unless you can think of another Scary Bald Team in PoT?

Good luck/have fun with paintball. I've never played either, so can't give any help...

Damn, white shoes... oh, well, they're cheep sneekers anyhow.

Date: 2004-07-16 08:13 am (UTC)I dunno, maybe you have to sign up for the BURNINATING RAGE tachyon miles program? I'd pay attention to that. (Man, if Musashi and Hattori Hanzo don't turn out to be in this film I will be sorely disappointed. Extra points if they're lactating or something.)

Yay music!

Date: 2004-07-16 08:23 am (UTC)Any idea whether any people in the company might be sufficiently hardcore to come in with own camos and own guns?
Also, for love of cute fuzzy things, always make sure the hopper on your gun and the lids on your cans of extra paintballs are closed. Otherwise, you stumble and fall, and suddenly lose your entire ammo supply, or most of it anyways. And even though the guns are semi-auto, you can burn through a hundred paintballs in *seconds*...
Yeah.

Date: 2004-07-16 08:59 am (UTC)Expect bruises if you get hit. Big, nasty, blueish, very precisely round ones. Bruise polka-dots.
... some of us like this aspect, mind you, but seriously: fuckers hurt. Although you probably won't notice at first if you're properly adrenalized.
But yeah, "sneak and snipe" is more like "sneak and then mow down".

Date: 2004-07-16 09:01 am (UTC)It doesn't hurt that badly, but as I said above: fuckers leave serious bruises if you're in anything like close range. And let's face it, everything is close range, just because the guns are just not that accurate even at near point blank range.
