Instead of doing fannish work I've been writing Tennipri pairing essays. Yes, it's that lame. But anyway, a couple of random things just occurred to me today:
1) The Tachibana sibs. This is... one of those things that are obvious to the point of not being worth mentioning to a native Japanese or Chinese reader, so we've gotten over it long ago, but that's not everyone. I sometimes remember this. XD "Tachibana" like "Katsura" or "Sakuragi" is one of those Japanese plant surnames. It's an old word for "tangerine tree". Upon which Konomi - because he is SO WITTY OMG >_> - writes "Kippei" partly with a character that means "orange". And "An" is the character that means "apricot".
Let's review our lesson for today.
Momo = peach
An = apricot
You can stop crying now.
2) This is more personal and related to the Peace Maker manga, for which I'm incubating a very long, spoilerish and analytic post. While walking to the metro this morning I was thinking about Itou Kashitarou, and how I really couldn't come up with an antecedent for the character into which Kurono turned him (venally scheming samurai strategist attack uke canonically gayer than gay to the point where all the other PMK characters are discussing how gay he is in tones of creeped-out wonder, which is how sad, exactly?), and that he may actually be a unique type in my manga-reading experience, when this thought pops into my head: "No, he's not, he's just Mizuki Hajime in a past life."
Astonishingly, this made me feel immediately better about the fact that he's going to be brutally murdered and left in the crossroads. I think it's the idea that in the greater karmic scheme he won't have learnt a damned thing from pissing off the Shinsengumi.
