Baby diary: 43 weeks
Oct. 9th, 2019 11:04 amBack to daycare, with the remnants of a runny nose. I was told to my chagrin that the other babies only had minor symptoms. Hoping by the end of this week Alan will stop crying at drop-off; in China we'll have to work on getting him to nap without all the rocking and breast-feeding, so he can stay for longer... Nights are sometimes easy and sometime not. The change of weather is difficult: sometimes he sleeps badly because he's too warm, sometimes too cold.
I have to say it was actually a lucky thing that that cup of hot coffee went left and doused my laptop (which... seems to be okay as I'm typing on it today... maybe I'll cancel the $600 display replacement), because if it had gone right it would have doused the baby; as it is it only splashed his socks. Needless to say, the Nespresso machine has been moved. But the little guy is so tall that he can see over most ledges in the house by standing on tippy-toe (he has learnt to stand on tiptoe, as well as to pull himself to standing by grabbing onto adult pants legs, not to mention the merest Alex Honnold-esque handholds on vertical surfaces), with the exception of the kitchen counters. My dad likes to put him down at one end of the hallway and see how fast he races down it on hands and knees.
I find Alan a lot of fun now as he's finally started to play, or what I recognize as such, instead of just hitting objects or destroying them or sticking them in his mouth. He takes things out of his toy boxes and puts them back in. Presses buttons and puts balls through holes and loops. Today he made loud "music" with a mixing bowl and spoon. Gratifyingly what he does is often "counter" to how the toys are designed to be used, but still valid. Of course that's just how kids are but it makes one realize that adult thinking is a mass of fossilized heuristics.
Also, he's started saying "ma ma ma" again (he stopped for a while). I'm not sure this refers to me but I still find it very validating. XD
