Baby diary: 39 weeks 3 days
Sep. 14th, 2019 09:49 am Haven't written a baby diary for ages! Should have made an entry before we left for Halifax... as I remember Alan learnt how to take steps while guiding himself around the crib/coffee table that week. His crying has also changed: there's a lot more intentionality behind it, not screaming because he's upset, but screaming because he wants to (because he's upset). If that makes sense.
The trip was generally successful, from the perspective of travelling with baby. He slept well both snuggled up to me in the train sleeper car (soothing for adults as well) and on the plane, and the takeoff/landing didn't give him any inner ear problems: there were two other little kids on the flight and both cried, but Alan was fine. *fistpump* He also slept OK in the Airbnb crib, but as often happens these days he woke up crying in the night, and in order not to disturb my parents I took him into bed with me. So after a week of that I was pooped. It was also challenging to keep hold of him in restaurant booths, although Alan is very sociable and constantly looking for strangers to charm. I ate a few one-handed lobster rolls. XD;
We did indeed survive Hurricane Dorian: although we had all seen in the weather report that Saturday would be rainy, none of us put it together until Friday morning in Halifax. Mostly, it was just inconvenient. We lost Saturday staying in, and there was no power until Monday afternoon in a big swathe of the city, so options for eating in and eating out were both limited. I managed to get out to Good Robot (with my dad) and Chainyard, but there were so many other good brewpubs / indie distilleries / brasseries in the area!
After this I'm much more confident about the travelling part of the China trip, but I don't necessarily fancy being stuck in the Shanghai apartment with my parents for a month. ^^; Mold issues aside (there is one), Alan's sleep pattern will definitely regress with my mom around to coddle him.
Anyway: Monday is the big day -- start of daycare! I'm all prepped since all I had to do was put ready-made labels on things haha. But I'm really not looking forward to having to race against the clock in the morning again. (Monday afternoon is Alan's 9-month well-baby checkup so I'll be able to log how large he officially is.)
