I remember S., at this age, wouldn't sit and always wanted his mom to help him stand up. Alan can pull himself up to standing nearly everywhere, but he's started to complain because he can't climb onto the sofa by himself. Once there he stands on tiptoes and reaches over the sofa back to fiddle with the kitchen sink faucet. It's pretty hair-raising. He's also getting strong enough to open drawers and close doors. At this point toys are interesting, but not as interesting as everything else. Today he climbed entirely onto an Amazon box and fell over the other side and hit his nose. But he never hurts himself on the Herman Miller "Nelson" bench I use as a coffee table, and it occurs to me to wonder whether that is him being surprisingly un-clumsy for a baby, or whether the bench is designed to accommodate mid-century rugrats. It's a perfect height for him, and the slats are easy to grip.

He also won't sit in his high chair anymore, unless sufficiently distracted. So I can let him self-feed, or I can spoon feed him quickly while he watches Molang, or I can chase him around with bits of finger food. He's also learnt to spit food back out, so if he doesn't want it, he lets me know. =_= He decided today that he was tired of peaches, though two days ago he ate a whole one. But I roasted baby aubergines and marinated them with olive oil and sherry vinegar and chives, and he scarfed down 3-4 of those (minus the skins). I also shredded a roasted Brussels sprout, just to see if he would eat it, and he did. He also eats my mom's mung bean soup, and -- get this -- he prefers his sippy cup water with a strip of lemon zest, a la française. But altogether he still only drinks a couple of ounces a day.

Oh, and: his nerve endings have developed enough that he's clearly ticklish, and laughs at the merest sign that an adult is preparing to tickle him. XD It's super cute but I try not to do it too much. By the same token, and not to put too fine a point on it, he's learnt to scratch his balls whenever his diaper is off.
