Music, various
Sep. 12th, 2006 08:01 pmThink I stand a chance w/r/t this fic. Now it's a matter of working against the clock. XD;
Lisa Loeb - I Do (Rhythm Remix): I loved this song back when it used to play on the radio - late nineties indiegirlpop 4 evr - it has no real strings of nostalgia attached, though, apart from a vague sensorial impression of coffeeshops back when Second Cup's flavoured espresso drinks were a new and marvellous thing. XD This is a less elaborate alternate version from the Let's Forget About It CD single, which I own and just got around to ripping, like, last week.
Justin Timberlake - Sexyback (Linus Loves Remix) (9.9MB): I can't stress how much more I like this than the version of the song that plays on the radio (regarding which T commented, "Why is Justin Timberlake re-doing Slave 4 U? Why don't they just stop lying to themselves and get back together?"), largely because I aim for techno nights but still end up in electro rooms half the time, it's some sort of curse - and this is exactly the sort of track that gets dropped for the Osheaga night crowd wedged between Uffie and Digitalism. Was, I mean. *g* (I've been too lazy to do any concert reviews since June. The short and long of it is Apparat's mixer broke 45 minutes in and we all had to go home.)
Luciano - Amélie (Remix 2) (13.2MB): minimal techno remix of the waltz theme from Amélie. YA RLY. I'd been on the lookout for it a long time before I got hold of it. XD Like most of Luciano's a pleasure-of-minor-variations track, at first it comes across as the same sixteen bars looped over and over for seven minutes but every iteration differs in instrumentation, at the very least in rubato.
Astreal - Lover and the Sea: upped by
helvetius. It's... I'm going to make myself say this... Singaporean shoegaze, which sounds like a joke even though it shouldn't. (The alliteration. ^^;) I like the album lots; this is one of the tracks that doesn't sound shoegaze-y so much as eerily like the Stills with a female vocalist. Down to the 'naming sense'. XD Which is a-ok with me, since I loved the Stills' first album, even if it left me with no gumption to hear the second.
The Human League - Don't You Want Me (12" Mix): 80s dansudansu ACTIVATE. This is the seven-minute disco instrumental club mix, pretty much.
...The problem with following Ouran is I have host club on the brain now. Was rewatching Les Invasions barbares and thinking Sebastien/Gaelle was like Kyouya/Haruhi (mostly Sebastien is Kyouya; there's that scene where René asks him if he's good at what he does, and you can tell he wants to say "the best there is" SO BADLY but restraint wins out XD). And then I started constructing a Bleach thing with Rukia = Haruhi and Seireitei = Ouran, only to run immediately foul of the fact that if you can get Byakuya to join a parttime host club your sl0ring powers are greater than mine. I mean, I'd like to see Tamaki try.
