The Gourds - Gin and Juice
For
beeblebabe if she still needs'em. I advise those of you who have the original to download the cover, it's... Special.
Yae - My Dear: for
canis_m. Pretty acoustic guitar Japanese folk-pop. I used it to close a mix CD I sent to Kristin a good long time ago. Should do that more, but now that everyone has iPods the physical object is almost more a nuisance than anything. :/
Yoko Kanno - Torukia
Yoko Kanno - dew
Recently I've been listening to the GitS:SAC OST3 a lot. It's mostly music from Second Gig I think; I remember hearing both these tracks in the anime but I'm not sure exactly where. The first (bongos, orchestration, Kanno-ese chanting) is probably when the Major is cyberdiving or - knowing the series - during some sort of military helicopter attack. The second I have no idea. XD It's organic, melodic Japanese IDM reminiscent of Shugo Tokumaru or Takagi Masakatsu, with lyrics in... Italian? Cis hit on this track in the pick-a-number meme.
Marit Bergman vs. Justus Köhncke - Rentcode: and this was picked by
credoimprobus. What I wrote then:
"Erm, obviously if you pick a number this close to the end you get something I downloaded yesterday and tacked onto the playlist while I was already doing the meme. XD This comes from Fluxblog and is basically Marit Bergman singing the Pet Shop Boys' "Rent" over Justus Köhncke's "Timecode". Like poire william and dark chocolate, two great flavours that go together."
She changes the melody somewhat but you could just as well sing the original (I tried). Really the party trick is to identify the right song: just yesterday I discovered you can sing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" perfectly over Cut Copy's "Saturdays", and the result will even make sense as a duet.
Carol Lynne Townes - I Freak For You: the track that follows on my current dance playlist. Your weekly dose of early-80s DISCO. Basically, I just like music that sounds like it could've been made on the old Casio keyboard in my room.
