HnG #182: well, about time. XD

(Yes well, I realise it's not very good form to bitch when someone takes most of a week - every week - to provide one with free scans and translation of an unavailable foreign magazine. Humanly speaking Acworld's of a frightening efficiency. But then, that's what Chinese copyright infringement is all about: cheap and frighteningly efficient knock-offs for the masses. I wonder about that sometimes, because the Chinese as a culture hold ourselves to high standards; and yet there's no sense that it's "better" to get hold of the original than the obviously inferior and shoddy reproduction. It's as if the only thing that matters is to get the content into one's head, and the actual manga or CD or whatever is as much packaging as the brown paper bag that goes around it.

You'd say this was the whole reason why copyright infringement is unethical, why it's a form of disrespect to the source material. But look at the way the Russians do it - they've got artistry. ^^;)

But I digress... Yanno, it's a mercy that Akira is down with the keigo, 'cos the other two members of the current sannintai you can't take out anywhere. But why does his mother call him -san? o_O; And I thought Hikaru!Mom was a flake.

...Actually, Hikaru!Mom reminds me of this one panel in Real Life Adventures:

Little Girl: Mom, I want to take figure skating lessons and compete in the Olympics one day.
Mother: Well, that's nice, dear, but you'd have to get up at five every morning to go to practice.
Little Girl: That's okay.
Mother: Let me rephrase that. I'd have to get up at five every morning to drive you to practice.

Just... whatever is the opposite of a stage parent, yanno? It's funny, because by North American standards she's not a bad mother at all, but by Asian standards she's lax to the point of child neglect. ^^; Yashiro's family I can understand - "don't do *that*, we want you to get into a good uni and become a doctor/lawyer/blahblah" - but Hikaru's parents are just like, "okay, it's your life so do what you want, just don't fail your required education too badly or we'd have to, uh, cut off your allowance." >_> They stopped paying attention to him after 6th grade, I assume because Sai helped him crib for history geography and Jap. lit. for two years (he couldn't have been any help with English or maths), and next time they turned around it was like, surprise, Mom, I'm an accredited professional!
