I knew there was some sort of deja vu niggling w/r/t the Beirut appropriation thing, and last night it finally clicked: Fizheuer Zieheuer. FZ and its uncredited gypsy orchestra sample. XD The comparison (including that of critical response) could be a great blog piece for uhh somebody who isn't me. Also, fairly safe bet Villalobos would never sample Beirut, but it's probably worth pondering why the idea is scary. Nothing to do with the music itself, I suspect.

Actually I had a string of lightbulb! moments last night - tragically none of them have a thing to do with my term paper.

Maybe the electric current that lights one string of lightbulbs will eventually run into a string connected to you term paper?

Actually, I cornered a professional illustrator at a reception last night. He suggested trying to retain some sort of rights (simply because you never know), but to start with a high number per character--and that it should be per character--like $10,000. Then let them talk you down from that.

(He also said medium-sized outfits are the hardest to work for, because they tend to do these "why don't you give me a number" things instead of having a set price or a price that they themselves decide--which would be the method of large or single-person clients.)

Life Is In Their Hands -- Death Is On Their Minds! OTL
