Christmas wishlist

People (by which I think I mean, Chrissie) actually asked so I sat down and tried to make one.

This is how it turned out, in no particular order:

* noise-cancelling earphones for the metro
* some sort of basic sound editing/DJ software, foolproof, for fool purposes as follows: 1) making mixed FSTs 2) pushing the fader between songs at house parties
* this
* this
* by which I mean mp3s but a record player younger than I am so I can get reasonable sound quality out of the vinyl I occasionally can't stop myself from buying wouldn't hurt
* ...[insert .txt listing of tracks, headed by "Wurz + Blosse" and "808 The Bass Queen"]
* an ibook, why not
* stockings/leggings for winter
* this (being pleased that I can read it)
* that all SSBB writers might brush up on their grammar
* a yoga mat
* this (or, say, Super Bust-a-Move 2)
* icons featuring characters I write about, so I can use them when I post fic
* suitable Oshitari icons for [livejournal.com profile] yuushidiaries
* more classic SF novels, to whittle away at my ignorance
* a 1GB or 2GB data key

I'm not trying to become a DJ, really. >_> (Though in this lifetime I'd like to DJ the Saturday night dance at an anime convention, ahaha.) Uh, maybe I should sit down and make/update a list of tracks I'd be willing to trade for, since I have DSL now and have basically not used it for any higher purpose than downloading more techno.

Numark has a turntable that's got a USB hookup, so you can patch it directly into your computer and record vinyl to MP3.

Best idea ever? Quite possibly.

Well, can't help you with the rest, but if you ever need someone to do a grammar check on any SSBB stuff, I'd be willing?

Hmm, being totally ungifted at iconmaking, and ignorant of music, 'fraid I can't help you with much here.

Congrats on DSL, though. Once I got DSL I totally filled my HD to bursting.

more classic SF novels, to whittle away at my ignorance

If I knew your address I'd send you some of my old ones. XD; onyabear at gmail if you're interested.

[identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com 2006-11-20 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be taking you up on that at one point or another. XD

[identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com 2006-11-20 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
:)

Address is here. (http://petronia.livejournal.com/384988.html#cutid1) I think I have yours, unless it's changed from last year.

*thumbs up* I should look into a proper turntable. But the earphones must come first. ^^;

icons featuring characters I write about, so I can use them when I post fic

Does this mean you will hypothetically write Viewfinder longfic if you hypothetically receive a few dozen Asami/Feilong icons? xD

(and instead of katamari, you could always play a Japanese fighting game based off Les Miserables (http://zephranthes.livejournal.com/26302.html)!)

RE: classic SF, what early LeGuin have you read? Or is that not classic enough?

If it's classic enough for the Hugo and Nebula folks XD

[identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com 2006-11-20 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
All I've read of Leguin are The Lathe of Heaven and the original Earthsea Trilogy (in the wrong order - books 1 and 3 in my early teens, book 2 much later). None of it really clicked. They were all very good books but somehow not congenial to this readerbrain, I came away each time with a vague sense of cold and depression.

You tell me, though...

[identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com 2006-11-20 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
More than one is unnecessary! XD It's the other way around, when I post Viewfinder fic theoretically I should do it with a Viewfinder icon instead of Bleach or New Order album covers or whatever else. I just have this thing about having icons that no one else does and yet am too lazy to make them for myself most of the time.

But you could always send me an icon of Feilong dressed as an elf or something. 8D

That fighting game is LOL ♥

Haha, well, the one I wanted to inflict on you would be even more cold and depressing, as it involves travel across arctic wastelands. But--androgyny! And politics. And world-building with anthropological detail. ...If nothing else it'd be seasonally appropriate. I dunno, would you be put out by a used copy?

(Had you already read Privilege of the Sword, btw?)

Re: If it's classic enough for the Hugo and Nebula folks XD

[identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Used copies are all good, as Charmian remarked when sent books I tend to read them. XD

I got the email but haven't read yet - haven't had the time. Plus I'll have to make a bookstore run tomorrow so may as well buy it, I think. ^^; (Package for you tomorrow too, btw.)

[identity profile] canis-m.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Right, then. :D

Privilege is worth buying. I'll want to get a real copy too someday when I'm flush. There are certain parts...it's the sort of thing you wish you could read for the first time more than once. XD

[identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
I had to use ljArchive to find the right thread to assure you that having received the book I've now read it, though now I'm not quite sure what the hurry was. ^^; Because it's very good, I guess.

I imagine I'll have something to say once it's morning and I get my brain back.
