Foooooood

Conned my father into driving me to the Korean supermarket in NDG, which is across the street from an Iranian(?) supermarket. Since my dad and I have pretty much the same approach to food shopping ("Do you have any idea what this is?" "No, but it looks delicious!" "Grab two!") we bought a huge amount of stuff. In particular I went nuts and ended up with 35$ worth of tea, including cardamom tea, houjicha, sweetened matcha powder for making shaved ice and milkshakes, etc. This when mother and sororial unit are due back from China in two days, bringing - you guessed it - more tea.

I'll probably fob some off on Tania and Erin. And Lorraine when Andrew and I make our expedition up north, which must be planned.

But at least barley tea's 18-month absence from my life is over!

Also, you wouldn't think Maeda-En Gold genmaicha makes that much of a difference, but it does. (It probably helps that I made it with water from Glen Thorsteinson's Nikken Aqua Pour aka Transform Your Tap Into A Crystalline Mountain Stream Through The Miracle Of Japanese Technology, no srsly the ad copy may sound like aging hippie nonsense but the water tastes like sunlight - and followed the brewing instructions to the second. Am also using these spoon-in-your-own-loose-tea filter bags and... I should've grabbed four packs of these.)

Anyway tea is like books, my family condones all expenditure since it's money not spent on soda pop and TV, which are bad for you.

I really like grocery shopping, actually. Just the sight of all that plenty puts me in a good mood. XD XD

DELICIOUS SHIRATAKI NOODLE STIR-FRY
(my dinner last night)

1 packet shirataki (konjac) noodles
2 tbsp canola oil
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp mirin *
1 tsp sesame seed oil
1 tsp chopped fresh ginger *
2 fried tofu tubes, cut into strips
1/3 large cucumber, cut into matchsticks

* ingredients which I did not have but that are in the recipe. I don't like ginger anyway, but I substituted the mirin with what I did have which was Chinese rice liquor.

Wash and drain the noodles. Coat the bottom of a skillet with canola oil and place on high heat. Stir fry the noodles and ginger for 3-4 minutes until the moisture boils off. Add the tofu, sugar, soy sauce and mirin, stir fry 1 minute. Add the cucumber and sesame seed oil and stir fry until cooked (1-3 minutes). Serves 1.

...I just discovered from Google that shirataki noodles are made from like 96% water and 4% fiber and contain no actual carbs, i.e. are not real food. Since tofu and cucumber are also not real food this is actually A COMPLETELY FAKE DINNER, albeit a filling and delicious one.

Meu? (I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist! XDXDXD)

Dear Madam,

We have recently acquired some lovely cows that are 50% WHEE!, 30% silly, 20% entirely debatable and strangely enough, contain no actual protein (and so, are not real cows).

Pray let us know if you are able access the pastures of Sendspace.com (last we heard, the fields of Yousendit.com are closed to you) for we are more than happy to unleash our cows upon you.

High on Sugar,
K. Inc.

XD XD XD

Sendspace is useable (preferably in small plots, though I don't know if that's an inconvenience ^^;).

Summer isn't summer without barley tea!

How lame is it of me to FANTASIZE wish that some kind of tea recs meme would go round? x_x; Like "tea cupboard essentials" wherein people list the specific varieties & brands they can't do without.

It is a rather good idea. XD I've been getting around to listing the contents of my cupboard for ages.
