Giant single-artist music post
Please comment if you download - I grow curious to know if there are actually people who gack when I make this sort of post, let alone what they think of it, or if it just makes everyone go dotdotdot (maybe I should do another genre-based poll?).
Recently I realised I can't listen to "Shine On Crazy Diamond" anymore without thinking of that scene in C.R.A.Z.Y. where you first see the teenaged Zac, smoking up a cloud in his bedroom and pretending to be Bruce Lee. Of course the whole thing with the C.R.A.Z.Y. OST is you're supposed to have associations with the music already. Similarly "Highway Star" just makes me think of Josuke onna motorcycle now XD (you can score the battle, practically, to the song). I really like Pink Floyd, anyway, they're one of the few classic rock acts to which I can actually claim to have paid attention beyond snippets of CHOM in the car, but if I mention it I end up having to explain that I don't listen to them as classic rock so much as... trip-hop. That is I have very few Pink Floyd mp3s because I listen to them by putting on The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon in CD or vinyl, with a drink in hand on a stifling summer evening, but the alternative in said circumstances would be Mezzanine. (Or Sigur Ros but that much is obvious.) I suppose it would make more sense to argue that IMO a track like "Angel" exhibits a multi-generational Floyd influence but I can't help that in my head it's the other way around. XD;;
I think of a lot of stuff as being "in the same genre" as Pink Floyd, most of which isn't rock at all. The Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas below, for instance, which is technically... Norwegian cosmic disco. I swear I did not just make that up. It's to differentiate it from the Italian cosmic disco which happened in the eighties and was actually comprised of songs about spaceships with lasergun SFX, and as Ced put it kind of reminds one of the Italian bubble chairs currently on display at the MMFA. L&PT is more just cosmic in the same shaggy way as t3h Floyd, and after you listen to them for an hour you never question why it's called "progressive house" again (although ironically they're not progressive house). Also, "Dark Side of the Spoon" ahahahaha.
You get a sense of it just from the file sizes. XD;;

And you know what? You're right. I'll have more comments once I listen to more of it.

I'm glad someone follows my bizarre connection-drawing tho! I think it may just be the way they use guitar samples, even, as well as how long and "tracky" it is without being actively unfocussed.

(Not quite sure what to make out of Lindstrøm and/or Prins Thomas. So far, what I have heard sounds good for filling background silence as one works.)

downloaded what i didn't have! (as ever with yr posts XD)
I still haven't made up my mind on the kosmische - I really like the shibuya fm dj sets L&PT did, but f'rinstance I'm still not really feeling 'i feel space' (still! though i like the m.a.n.d.y. mix quite a lot). Possibly just that I can't entirely deal with the shaggy, my tastes seem to generally skew more hifi/cleancut/streamlined/minimal/planed edges/moulded plastic/etc at the moment.
