Heatwave music after the heatwave's ended

Now it's rainy and cold and all I want to do is sit and listen to miserabilist music with a cup of tea, but someone out there must have suitable weather, no?

Marta Quintero - Sin desnudar el deseo: oom-pah-pah Spanish pop. Spanish-from-Spain not Latin America. The rest of this album is, like, sevillanas.

Chambao - Pokito a Poko: like Gotan Project or Bebel Gilberto, but with flamenco in lieu of tango or bossa nova. Hey, all the bases need covering.

MONDO GROSSO ft. BoA - Everything Needs Love (Piano-pella): rediscovered this track recently on BoA's Next World collab album (the one with the Westlife duet, yes). Gospel-ish by way of Yoko Kanno. I think if I were to do a Back to Mine I might end it with this track.

...That would be a good music meme. If you were doing a Back to Mine, what would the tracklisting be? XD

A Perfect Circle - Pet: this is my deranged!Kotarou song, haha. Keep your head down, go to sleep to the rhythm of the war drums... I have tons of songcalls for Mirage but they wouldn't work together as a mix at all, so I may as well post them from time to time.

Stereolab - Ping Pong
Stereolab - Cybele's Reverie

I think these two are, if not their biggest "hits" (I have no idea), at least their most immediately catchy pop songs. Stereolab is one of those bands where the lyrics fade into the wallpaper regardless of how clever they are. It wasn't until this morning as I was trying to sing along to "Ping Pong" under my breath that I realised the chorus went like this:

Bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
Huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery
Don't worry be happy things will get better naturally
Don't worry shut up sit down go with it and be happy
Dum dum dum dee dum dum de duh de duh de dum dum dum ah ah
Dum dum dum dee dum dum de duh de duh de dum dum dum ah ah

It's a sarcastic song about economics! (Full lyrics here.) Meanwhile, "Cybele's Reverie" is in French, and the video is awesome - it sounds and looks like a Colette novella.

Speaking of awesome videos: Pet Shop Boys - Domino Dancing

By stunning coincidence "Domino Dancing" is exactly the right speed to walk down the street to in high heels and flippy skirt under a pounding sun, although blond half-naked crypto-gay construction workers are entirely optional alas. ...Does anyone have a version of the video I can put up? (For that matter, does anyone have the extended version of the song used in the video? I would ♥ you madly.)

Speaking of putting up awesome videos, I really should've remembered to link more than a day or so before the YSIs are due to expire, but [livejournal.com profile] mitethe uploaded Mylène Farmer's videos for Pourvu qu'elles soient douces, Libertine and C'est une belle journée. Some of you may remember me ranting about the Specialness of these videos ("Libertine" comes before "Pourvu qu'elles soient douces" in the storyline). Basically it's like a really cracked yaoi manga, except Mylène is only dressing like a boy. To quote [livejournal.com profile] mitethe: a cheerful historical re-enactment of a fatal clash between the English and French armies during the Seven Years' War, with the addition of star-crossed romance, cross-dressing, whipping, catfights, whores**, and general debauchery. In short, good times!

** Note that when we say whores we specifically mean French whores who do not wear knickers (as opposed to the "Californie" video which has L.A. streetwalker type of whores), so not safe for work. Not that you would ever watch music videos while at work.
