I should post something

Real life -- back in Montreal. The landing at Dorval was a bit harrowing - it was one of those teeny planes the size of two Voyager busses nose to tail, and there was a stiff headwind - but got in all right albeit late. Now I'm far too tired to think about how I was collecting frangipani in a hitched-up sarong a mere week ago, which is just as well. XD Colleagues all went :D at me and asked to see my photos.

Will have to do something about that, and the ones I took in Europe, and the ones I took in Shanghai two years ago. orz

Fandom -- 1) Besides SBR vol.9 [1] I also bought the latest volume of GB again, so I could get the special-edition postcards, and the GB ura-fanbook which I'd forgotten existed. It only chronicles up to the very beginning of Marine Red but the coverage is pleasantly detailed. Now I'm reading this and wishing I'd bought it as well. :P

2) Was going to post this in carnet but... Here's a thing about SGA fic: the characters are exactly the sort of OC I'd make up myself (not the same as 'the sort of character I'd latch onto and be fannish about'). [2] Figured this out early on but was re-reading Traffic a few days ago and thought, isn't Winston Tse basically just a younger, shorter, more Cantonese Rodney McKay? XD

In between -- three movies I've watched in the past month, two thanks to United Airlines:

* X-3
* A Scanner Darkly
* Dragon Tiger Gate [3]

[1] Or as I prefer to call it, "The Unlocking of Shadow Jesus".

[2] The series concept is also the sort of SF cheese I'm in danger of making up myself, or so I think. I love to write SF but my qualifications are precisely zero, since I haven't paid my dues as a reader - not even come close. BTW K what was that book you had on the bus to Malacca? ^^;; My brain being a sieve I've forgotten all except that I thought it was interesting and wanted to read it.

[3] Or as I prefer to call it, "Donnie Yen's Hair Versus The Balrog".

There are rumours of a second DTG movie, by the way, since the first one did so well at the box office. I am hoping that they include the dinosaurs from the manga in the sequel.

OMG. YOU! YOUUUU! STOP YOU THIS! IMMEDIATELY! Winston is way WAY hotter. Well-- um-- at the very least HE DOES NOT HAVE A PAUNCH!

Re: SGA, really? All the characters? I have a personal obsession with Rodney particularly because, questionable genius aside, he has such incredibly average-joe reactions to stuff -- "Oh my god, we're going to die," or, "Yes, yes, well, obviously, the Ancients couldn't have been that smart, or they wouldn't all be dead," or, "Ew, this cocoon is really gross, don't you think this cocoon is really gross?" etc etc, which I find so totally refreshing when you're talking about a canon in which every episode somehow or another comes back down to a basic plot of Our Heroes, Escaping Evil Clutches of Badly-Costumed Space Vampires!!!!! I should seriously read Traffic. I keep trying to save it as a treat for myself, for like, when I have time. XD

*nods* The hair should've got its own credits on the cast list.

scifi I think people should read:

Downbelow Station and Cyteen by CJ Cherryh. They're old but still good!!! Also: the Phylogenesis trilogy by Alan Dean Foster. (I think that's what it's called anyhow. Or at least the first book. Can't recall if the other two were good too. XD They're all vaguely related although it's more worldbuilding since the time periods are pretty far apart.)
