I really wonder if Ancient China carries the same connotation for fantasy-reading Japanese schoolgirls as Celtic Europe does for their Western equivalents? Because that's how it's starting to come across.

I was thinking that myself. Actually, that would make a great AU, wouldn't it? For any of the pseudo-China based shoujo series--try to make them Celtic (or British)!
