Peer-pressured into reading Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don't - and I've gotta say, this book brings some real insights to the table regarding the success of the Seishun Gakuen junior high tennis team. (Suspect one could write a pretty good mgmt how-to book using only examples from Prince of Tennis. SHOUNEN JUMP: JAPAN INC.'S SECRET WEAPON???? ...Actually we knew that, didn't we.)

Sent out a bunch of holiday mail today. Most of you are going to get cards - in a lot of cases because it takes me geological eons to produce a mixtape or an FST, so I figured I'd send something while it was still seasonal. XD; Also I got ambitious and started doing this origami thing uhh well in any case you'll know when you see it. CDs went out to: [livejournal.com profile] beeblebabe, [livejournal.com profile] akatonbo, [livejournal.com profile] calintz, [livejournal.com profile] canis_m, and [livejournal.com profile] bladderwrack. There'll be another batch Monday or Tuesday.

The way it works is, there's no tracklisting in the package. XD So you get it, listen to it first without knowing what the songs are going to be, then let me know and I'll post the tracklisting here - along with the mp3s for mass consumption.

In other news (and to take a page from [livejournal.com profile] marej's book), the Internet as a whole is fired for not informing me that there's a Pantha Du Prince remix of Depeche Mode.
petronia: (candy)
I won't be able to finish all the mix CDs, of course. ^^; I got 25 requests and will have 5-6 ready to go tonight - I won't be able to mail them until Tuesday, though, since I have to buy bubble mailers and make it to the post office. 10-12 should be manageable but after that it gets dicey since they still have to wend their way through the snail mail network. Will probably start on cards for the rest. Anyone else for cards? Post is here. Don't assume I have your address! ^^;

Also on the announcements front, [livejournal.com profile] getbacksubrosa's guessing deadline is in three days. Don't forget to submit your guesses - only a few people have done so thus far. I'll post to the comm too but I figure this is the only way I'm reaching GB-fan flisters who don't have it friended (I know there's a few :O).

Wednesday: Montreal Contemporary Art Museum )

Wednesday night: GAMMA 256 )

Friday: McGill case competition )

Friday night: MBA winter party )
petronia: (swashbuckling)
Firstly, Shousetsu Bang*Bang no.9 is up - but you knew that. XD

Secondly, this is [livejournal.com profile] helvetius's ficlet onna card about Sirius and Remus. It's #3 because there is a #2, it just hasn't been entrusted to the post yet. XD;; "Solace", if you're having trouble placing it, is a Scott Joplin rag.

557 words. I guess this is supposed to be James and Lily's, um, first and only Christmas party? T_T )
petronia: (jotaro)
Ka asked for Giorno/Mista or Jolyne/Annasui, and I've already written 9,000 words of purported Giorno/Mista this year, so. Spoilers for the ending of part 6 (as in, the very last scene) and part 7, in a manner of speaking.

...I should upload this song as BGM. XD

654 words. Possibly more meta than the Rohan fic. Also likely to be the only anime/manga-based fic ever to contain the words 'amber alert'. )
petronia: (tea or coffee?)
For [livejournal.com profile] arboretum (the artist formerly known as [livejournal.com profile] ametatsu). She asked for Tamaki but as often happens I didn't so much write him as write around him - literally, it's a camerawork exercise in prose. Or maybe a pictoral representation of the music, variation by variation (in lieu of red roses, white roses, blue roses, pink roses, etc.), at the given tempo.

If you don't know the piece... you know the piece, trust me. XD;

503 words. For some reason this was quite difficult to write. )
petronia: (in the mail)
For Kristin, who requested DJ Ran in Montreal. The flist is large, so if you have no idea what that's about: for the past couple of years [livejournal.com profile] canis_m and others have been tossing around a WAFFy Clover AU in which Ran is a techno DJ and Gingetsu bodyguards or otherwise sticks around, and they travel (details vary depending on who's writing; there's been very little attempt at background coherence XD). There's an aesthetic correspondence... but mostly it's about t3h cute.

Related fic, art, and mixtapes. )

I'm missing stuff. There was at least one with popstar!Suu and producer!Ran. XD; Link me if you're better organized. Anyhow other people fic and I... post mp3s, but this time I was told to write the akchul DJing bit. So this isn't really a story, it's a description of a minimal techno night as they occur in these parts. I found I had to base myself on something so I used what I was listening to, namely Michael Mayer's Immer 2 (SCSI-9, "Morskaya" -> Jesse Somfay, "Lying in a Bed of Mist"), but very inaccurately.

Based on a MUTEK venue, though it could be anywhere really. 881 words. )

I'm doing a techno mix too, not a chillout one. ^^; Maybe I should get permission and repost everything to my [livejournal.com profile] minimalicious account? I just had the idea of turning it into Ran's fake blog à la [livejournal.com profile] yuushidiaries only with moar mp3s, but I couldn't write it, Kristin would have to write it. At best I'd obtain and abuse Fruityloops for great veracity.

Ficlets onna card have started arriving - not in order, but this is the earliest written and sent (Puu made the first request IIRC). Inspired by the maintainer of that Rohan shrine, whose theory was that stands have bizarre preconditions due to the circumstances of their discovery, especially if the stand is later able to grow beyond said limitations. When it's introduced Heaven's Door only activates on someone who 1) is the first person to see a new chapter of Rohan's manga, and 2) is "on his wavelength", i.e. groks his manga. From which the essayist derived that Rohan must have discovered his stand by accidentally victimizing his editor, after having been shot by the arrow. XD

If you are like me you just thought, "Rohan's editor... geez, it's true, come to think of it Rohan must have an editor. .............That poor bastard."

The rest is further elaboration on the Pink Dark Boy mythos as seen in the Giorno/Mista epic, i.e. META META META. XD

Kishibe Rohan, part 4 timeframe, 637 words )
petronia: (heart's desire)
I've written 3,500 words in two weeks which isn't bad for me, but it's unsatisfactory because I've made the ficlets too long (averaging 600 words each), so really I've only completed five and a half requests. >_> To make myself feel better I complied my total wordcount for 2006 today - 43,600 with twenty days to go, versus 41,500 last year - but it's still unsatisfactory, because it makes me feel like I should push for 50,000 before year end. (Maybe with the SSBB fic?) Oh well, I should just accept that I'm currently on some sort of neurotic overachieving hamster wheel and go with the ride. XD;;

Today's theme is... Guns n' Roses covers! (Inspired by Stereogum-I-think-it-was who posted selections from a bossa Gn'R cover album a while back.)

Scubba - Welcome to the Jungle (808 Remix): the calypso.

Akiko - Paradise City: the J-funk.

Flat Pack - Sweet Child O' Mine (Mylo Club Mix): and, of course, the electropop.

DMX Krew - You Can't Hide Your Love (Hidden Love Mix): rocking this one going on a year and a half now, inexplicably never posted (though I've burned and mailed it a couple of times XD). Awesome jittery electro groove, wid vocals.

Copying over the post I made on carnet last night that I now realise isn't embarrassing at all, with more songs. )
petronia: (bleh)
William Gibson posts about the creative process.

I needed that at the top of my flist. This time last year I had nearly ten ficlets onna card in the post and as of tonight I've only finished one, with five others in various stages of completion. The prompts aren't quantifiably more difficult so it must be me. ^^; The mind just resists. I've written 400 words or so tonight, which is silly considering I've been at it for six hours.

Mind insists none of it is any good either, but as Gibson posts that's largely meaningless.
petronia: (work)
Watanuki:Himawari:Doumeki::Annasui:Jolyne:Weather

AMIRITE??

A few days ago I caught up on xxxHolic as well. No outrage as with TRC there, just dull trauma. ...At least Doumeki won't pull a Fuuma (going by aforementioned logic). I think. D:

I still haven't started any of the December ficlets on my list. I've decided to write one a day until I'm done, beside my current projects (December SSBB and the Jojo epic), but it's easier said than done. XD; Even if I turn out a 100-word drabble for each it would be nearly 3000 words altogether.
petronia: (shinsenplushies)
For [livejournal.com profile] arisuesei, but I got her permission to post it to LJ immediately because I... I can't quite bring myself to send the same cards out, I'd have to buy Valentine Day ones at this rate. XD And also it's way too long. But I guess long isn't a bad trait in giftfic!?

I'm not sure I like this. ^^; Seduced by the concept to the detriment of characterization methinks. Take it as one version of what might have happened rather than the version... The title comes from the Ladytron track of the same name, which is actually one of my songcalls for Johan and Anna out of Monster. Which... I suppose that makes Aizen Franz Bonaparta? *crawls off and dies in a corner*

All The Way, Gin and Rangiku, 1861 words )

petronia: (nana)
For [livejournal.com profile] wenlet, who asked for Nana fic. Thanks to my London hosts, apologies for appropriation of imagery. (There was also this Ciara video I caught at least five times on Belgian MTV during my holiday? And the Pet Shop Boys I keep threatening.

...I still need a decent rip of this song. ^^;)

Honjou Ren in London, 469 words )

petronia: (electricity)
For [livejournal.com profile] serendip. She requested the suffering and travails of TRC!Eriol. XD As a bonus I made it steampunk!TRC!Eriol, so as to be able to post to [livejournal.com profile] myriad_myriad for December, which is why this is going up now. XD

Teatime, 473 words )

petronia: (aesthetics)
EDIT -- I am just going to post these two together, since they're fairly short and then I won't have to remember to do it. XD

For [livejournal.com profile] silvermuse89. She asked for wayoldergen!Academy fic and possibly Ukitake/Unohana, I think it was? XD

with the result that Shunsui took over the room and worked it, 231 words )

For [livejournal.com profile] pere_chan. This and the one I wrote for Meg make a fine matched pair, except Kurogane likes short sentences and Fye likes enumerative run-ons. XD

Fye and sweets, 355 words )

petronia: (holidays)
For [livejournal.com profile] one_if_by_land. I posted a snippet of this conceptverse to a guess-the-character drabble meme buried somewhere on [livejournal.com profile] sesame_seed's journal, but otherwise... uh, don't ask. XD; Lightly edited from the card version.

Hikaru and Akira, holiday fluff, also does double duty as the request Bing made in April, 445 words )

petronia: (determined)
[livejournal.com profile] cindyg, card received! ^^

SSBB: 何とかできる...かな。Actually I freak out every round wondering if I'm going to be able to put this issue together, only in a Zen way because well, I freak out every round. XD Probably if I were putting out a treeware magazine it'd be the same only more so.

I think I'm going to have to put a moratorium on the ficlets onna card project so I can work on SSBB, though. >_> It's not something I can do with half a brain. I feel bad but I need a recovery period anyway, in the past week I've written all of 1.5 ficlets. Some of you will probably be getting mail from me well into January. ^^;

...Sometimes I feel so frustrated that I'm not a faster writer. XD;

Five of you have just informed me that Ghibli is animating A Wizard of Earthsea. ...I don't suppose anyone will get me Howl's Moving Castle for Christmas so I'd remember to read it? XD Well, it's a thought.

(Indigo also has these cute little teapots-for-one, with filter. And - but it's late in the day to post a wishlist, I think all my friends have already figured out their shopping lists. XD)
petronia: (damned fangirls)
Now I'm breaking my own rule. Sorry Bing darling! But I want to get this chapter of my life over with as it were. XD P.S. Thanks to everyone who commented on the IniD ficlet, I am glad you enjoyed. XD

For [livejournal.com profile] yasminm. You know you're curious. *g* Actually I'm quite fond of this one, it makes me laugh even though I wrote it (possibly because I am a mean person).

Feilong x Takaba, 1401 words )

petronia: (power corruption and lies)
As she typed it up when she received it. XD But once again, posting in order.

For [livejournal.com profile] sesame_seed. "Traffic" is supposed to be set circa Love Surprise, and so this AU would branch off pre-NT (whereas [livejournal.com profile] yasminm's fic onna card branches off after). Deliberately I've made neither story an attempt to predict what I think will happen in canon, although if Yamane Ayano touches on what I consider key points I'll be amused. XD

Asami x Feilong, 1176 words )

petronia: (anyone else isn't you)
...As realistically speaking I won't be able to write any more of it for a while, though in my original fit of inspiration I blocked out much more than what's here. I am supposed to post these in the order in which they arrive. XD;

For [livejournal.com profile] metempsychosis. Not what she asked for but she seemed to like it. I love you in advance, flist, because I know you will get this. XD

D is for Dance, 30-second preview )

petronia: (photography)
For [livejournal.com profile] triniophoenicis. Sort of in-joke taken to a logically extreme conclusion (Genie lives in Ithaca). The truly charming image in my mind is Atobe boots-deep in Taughannock Falls but the story isn't about Atobe. XD

TezuFuji, 327 words )
